| Hearing Impairment is the largest disability all over the globe. Depression is the second largest disability after hearing impairment. |
| What is the incidence / prevalence of hearing disabilities ? |
| As per National Sample Survey Organization NSSO (1991) 2.7% of children (Age group 0-14) suffer from hearing problems. For every 1000 children born, one child is deaf. |
| Where are the places you are providing Speech and Audiology services ? |
| (a) At Secunderabad: Upkaar complex, Upkaar junction.
(b) At Tandur: Peddamula Road and at Govt. Hospital Out-Patient block.
(c) At Kadapa: at old Govt. Hospital building.
(d) At Guntur: at 3rd Lane, Arundalpet. |
| What courses are you running in the area of Speech and Audiology ? |
| (i) We are running, B.Sc. (ASLP – Audiology and Speech Language Pathology), 3 years Degree course + 1 year Internship. Foreign students are also welcome with 10+2 qualification. This course is run in 4 places: Secunderabad, (intake capacity – 40), Tandur, (intake capacity – 20), Kadapa, (intake capacity – 20) and Guntur, (intake capacity – 20).
(ii) DHI (Diploma in Hearing Impaired):
This course is run in Secunderabad alone. Two years duration.
(iii) DHLS (Diploma in Hearing Language and Speech):
1 year course. This is run in Secunderabad, Tandur and Kadapa.
(iv) DSE (HI) (Diploma in Special Education – Hearing Impairment):
This course is run only in Secunderabad. |

| (a) We are the fifth in the country out of 26 colleges to start DHLS (Diploma in Hearing Language & Speech).
(b) We are the eleventh in the country out of 46 colleges to start B.Sc (ASLP) – (Audiology Speech Language Pathology).
(c) We are seventh in the country out of 15 colleges to start M.Sc (ASLP) – (Audiology Speech Language Pathology), and only one college in the State of Andhra Pradesh conducting M.Sc programme. |
| Services for the Deaf : |
| We are running Early Intervention Programme for the Deaf, i.e. 0-3 years, Pre-school, i.e. 3-5 years, 1st class to 10th class, High School, Intermediate (Junior College).
(a) Vocational Training Programme for the Deaf, Computer Training
Programme at Kompally.
(b) Sai Bhavani Garments Manufacturing and Training of deaf children in the
Manufacturing of Garments. |
| What are the eligibility criteria ? |
| M.Sc (ASLP) – Audiology & Speech – Language Pathology (2 years)
Eligibility: A Pass in B.Sc (ASLP) with 50% aggregate. Admission through entrance exam & as per Osmania University rules.
B.Sc (ASLP) – Audiology & Speech – Language Pathology (3+1 years)
Eligibility: A Pass in intermediate MPC / BPC with 50% marks in optional.
Admissions on the basis of merit & as per rules and reservation of Osmania University.
DHLS: Diploma in Hearing Language & Speech (1 year+3 months)
Eligibility: Intermediate MPC / BPC as per merit & roaster
Age limit: 17 to 25 years. |

Fee can be paid in three installments-50% at the time of admission balance 50% in two installments in October and December. For one time payment 3% concession. |
